Faking a little color is always your safest bet, but the current trend isn’t faux bronze, its faux rosy. Looking as if you just got back from a jog can be prettier than having a deep-brown tan. A flushed face appears as if you’ve been playing outside, not sunning for hour. You can get the look without getting off your duff. Pat a lip-and-cheek gel onto your mouth and areas the sun would hit if it were above you—across the top of your cheeks, bridge of your nose and your upper forehead. Be sure to dab it over a light weight moisturizer and lip balm; putting it on over foundation creates an unnatural look. Complement your sun-kissed skin by making eyes sparkle: Dot a neutral, shimmery eye gloss onto the inner corner either with your finger or a small angled brush. Leave the lids bare and no one will guess you’re wearing makeup. Although they may suspect you’ve been skimping on the sunscreen. –Zoe Walder
